Overview

Cary Ballet Conservatory brings together decades of dance experience with a nurturing, developmental approach to ballet. For younger children (ages 3–5), CBC’s “Early Age Dance” classes introduce basic ballet positions, rhythm, and movement in a playful, encouraging atmosphere. As kids grow, the program transitions into structured levels — Primary, Elementary, Intermediate — building strength, posture, coordination, and dance vocabulary step by step.

For older kids and teens with dedication and ambition, CBC offers a Summer Intensive and a whole Professional Training track. These options deliver daily classes in ballet technique, pointe work, contemporary, jazz, conditioning, and choreography — giving seriously interested dancers a taste of pre-professional training.

What sets CBC apart is its dual identity: it’s equally welcoming to kids who want a casual, fun dance experience and to those dreaming of a dance future. Beginners receive a gentle, age-appropriate introduction; advanced students get rigorous training under experienced faculty. The Conservatory fosters not just dance skills, but discipline, confidence, artistry, and resilience — qualities that benefit kids far beyond the studio.

Why We Love It

  • CBC offers a complete ballet journey: from first steps (age 3) through intensive pre-professional training so that kids can grow at their own pace.
  • For serious dancers, the Summer Intensive and Professional Training Program provides real, performance-level training, repertory work, and a strong classical foundation.
  • The studio’s structure — age/level divisions, quality teaching, and residence options for intensives — makes it suitable for both local students and those traveling from afar.

Best for

  • Young children (ages ~3–5) beginning dance who want a gentle, enjoyable introduction to movement and music.
  • School-age kids (6–12) who want regular ballet or dance classes to build coordination, strength, and artistic awareness.
  • Teens and aspiring dancers who want intensive training, possible pre-professional preparation, or a serious dive into ballet and contemporary dance.

Accommodation and Meals

Accommodation

CBC functions primarily as a day-studio program for younger and recreational dancers. However, for the Summer Intensive and certain advanced-training tracks, CBC offers a “Residence Program” for visiting students. In that case, selected dancers may stay in a nearby residence with supervision and care while attending intensive dance sessions.

Safety

CBC emphasizes a safe, professional-standard dance environment. Studios have sprung floors, proper ballet barres, and equipment suitable for ballet, pointe, contemporary, jazz, and conditioning classes — helping to reduce risk of injury. For pre-professional and intensive students, training includes conditioning and strengthening work to support safe ballet technique.

While general safety policies (medical staff, emergency protocols) are not publicly detailed, the structured training environment and professional studio setup reflect a commitment to safe practice. For residential summer students, a dedicated residence manager provides 24-hour supervision and care.

Facilities and services

    • Professional ballet studios with sprung floors, barres, and mirrored walls — designed for ballet, pointe, contemporary, and jazz training.
    • Class divisions organized by age and level: Early Age (ages 3–5), Primary (ages 6–8), Elementary, Intermediate, Open Division (ages 8–13+), and Adult classes.
    • Summer-Intensive and Professional Training tracks for older or advanced students, with daily technique, conditioning, pointe, contemporary, jazz, and choreography classes.
    • Residence Program for visiting Summer Intensive students: supervised housing with a residence manager for eligible participants.
    • Access to well-trained instructors and faculty, many with professional dance backgrounds.
    • Conditioning and cross-training opportunities (e.g., Pilates, strength and flexibility work) for intermediate and advanced dancers to support safe technique and physical development.
    • Repertoire, variations, and partnering classes for advanced students — preparing for performance-level work.
    • Adult ballet / open-level classes offering drop-in or flexible enrollment for older teens and adults.
    • A structured curriculum that grows with the dancer’s age and skill level — from introductory movement to pre-professional training.

Activities Program

CBC’s program adapts to students’ ages and ambitions. For young children, it offers light, playful dance classes to build coordination and confidence. For older kids and teens, it delivers rigorous, structured training that mirrors a ballet-academy curriculum. Over time, dancers may progress from basic ballet positions to pointe work, contemporary and jazz styles, choreography, and performance preparation.

Special tracks include a Summer Intensive — daily extended classes in ballet technique, pointe, jazz/contemporary, conditioning — and a Professional Training Program for serious students. This allows dedicated young dancers to experience intensive training, artistic development, and preparation for potential performance careers.

    • Early-Age Dance (Pre-Ballet / Ballet + Jazz) for ages 3–5
    • Primary Division ballet and jazz/contemporary classes for ages 6–8
    • Elementary Ballet and Contemporary/Jazz for ages 8+ with foundational technique, movement vocabulary, and posture training
    • Intermediate Division — advanced ballet technique, introduction to pointe work, jumps, turns, and combinations
    • Open Division / Adult Classes — ballet and contemporary/jazz for teens and adults, including drop-in options
    • Summer Intensive track for committed students — daily technique, pointe/variations, contemporary/jazz, conditioning, choreography
    • Professional Training Program (PTP) for serious young dancers — multi-hour daily training, repertoire, partnering, conditioning, and performance preparation
    • Optional Residence Program for out-of-town Summer Intensive students needing housing
