The Shelton Challenge Leadership & Entrepreneurship Camps at NC State University offer an immersive, six-day residential experience designed to empower high school students to grow as confident, values-driven leaders. Open to rising 9th–12th graders, the program focuses on personal and interpersonal leadership development, ethical decision-making, and practical skills essential for thriving in today’s business and service-oriented world. The First-Year Shelton Challenge introduces foundational leadership concepts such as personal leadership assessment, teambuilding, goal setting, public speaking, and social responsibility. Through hands-on activities and daily reflection, students gain a deeper understanding of their leadership style and how to empower others effectively. For those who have completed the first-year program, the Take II Shelton Challenge builds on this foundation with advanced topics like strategic visioning, team building, diversity and inclusion, resource development, and leadership roles. Participants engage in activities that challenge them to apply their skills in real-world scenarios while receiving feedback through a 360° evaluation process conducted by their mentors and peers. Throughout the week, students live in residence halls, dine on campus, and use NC State’s recreational facilities. Activities like high and low ropes courses, service projects, and team-building exercises provide opportunities for both personal growth and collaboration. The program also emphasizes self-reflection as a key component of leadership development. Whether your teen is just beginning their leadership journey or ready to take it to the next level, the Shelton Challenge offers a transformative experience that equips young leaders with the tools they need to make an impact in their communities and beyond. It’s more than a camp—it’s a launchpad for future leaders.
